Minister laser focused on delivering for children, young people and families

Major child policies will be delivered before Christmas

As Minister for Children and Youth Affairs I have remained laser focused and committed on delivering for children, young people and families in recent days – and that remains the case.

In the coming weeks major policies will become a reality. As the only Independent Woman in Cabinet I have kept my focus on delivering the policies which children, young people and families need.

Key deliverables in past week:

In the past few days we have delivered €2.1m extra for Family Resource Centres, over €200,000 in extra funding for local youth clubs in South and West Dublin and carried out important engagements in Rathfarnham and Tallaght.

As Minister I continued preparing the groundwork for big developments which will become a reality before Christmas:

  •    Publication of a Bill to deliver accessible affordable quality childcare
  •     The introduction of Mandatory Reporting on 11th December ending 20 years of debate and political stalling
  •     Extra funding for frontline services responding to sexual and domestic violence
  •     Identifying priorities for the Child and Family Agency Tusla for 2018 as its budget passes €750m for the first time.

This work makes a difference. It transforms lives. It should never be derailed by political game-playing

I welcome that the impasse has been cleared – I urge all politicians to focus on delivering for people rather than any point scoring during the fall-out of recent days
